I found the APP 6000 Portable Generator by General Power Products at Menards listed for $599. It's $649 if you buy it from the manufacture's website.

APP 6000 Generator
The noise level is 75 dB(A) and I was not impressed with the 1 year warranty which they claim has less than 1 percent claims - well, if they reduced the warranty to 6 months, I'll bet they would have even less claims :) You want at least a two year warranty!

Note: There was a recall notice on the APP 6000 in October of 2008:
Generators with a black Cover Plate could develop a fuel leak at the Fuel Cock Valve. The Fuel Cock Valve and Cover Plate may impact each other during shipping, handling and operation causing damage to the Fuel Cock Valve. Not all these generators have a Cover Plate installed. The model numbers that may have the Cover Plate are General Power Products model APP 6000 and Poulan Pro model PPG 6000.

Please help,

I bought one of these gems for 50% off ($299.95) at a local home improvement store and I’m not sure I got my money’s worth. They’re very loud, super heavy and the output power quality is about the worst I’ve seen. Some Chinese made stuff is decent, but this is bottom of the barrel crap. I foolishly sold a WEN Power 3500 to pay for the “upgrade” to this 6000 watt model, big mistake. Buy another brand, General Power Products didn’t work for me!
I’m trying to fix an APP6000 that belongs to a friend of mine. He stored it with gas in the Carb. bowl. and the Start/Stop switch fell apart. This is the same unit as the Poulan PRO PPG6000. It actually has an engine made by HONDA. It was satisfactory until now and it’s origin is so iffy, I can’t find replacement parts. None of the part numbers in the Service Manuel are recognized by anyone. Always started great before and with such good names you’d think I could find a way to convert the service manuel’s part numbers to Honda numbers. At 200 lbs., it really won’t make a great boat anchor.
I’ve had one of these for about 6 years now. I think they’re awsome. I’ve used mine twice. I’ve stored it as recommended and it never starts. I’ve needed to use it about 15 times but really it’s most useful purpose is holding down the concrete because this thing is such a piece of junk . I also have 2,2000w honda generators that I use infrequently. I store them the same way and believe it or not they always start. Never again will I save a couple of bucks and buy an off brand generator. What a waste of money and piece of junk.
Mine busted after 18 hrs of use and simply can’t find anyone who knows how to get the needed part. I have the part # and everything….even the GPP home in Ohio can’t tell me squat. These things are miserable excuse for a generator and Menards was irresponsible for selling them.
I have had the GPP 6000 since about 2006 or so and I have had any trouble with it. I am a commercial contractor and I beleive it has served me well. I only paid $550.00. The noise may be louder compared to my other genrators but I paid $2,000.00 and up for the less noisy ones.
Does anyone ever heard of CM equipment generator?
